Lesson 5 of 5 · Big Picture
You're the one in charge

AI learned from what people have written, so it carries our gaps: some voices and languages show up far less. You set the goal and make the final call. Today: hand AI one small task and judge the result.
Try this today
Hand an AI chat tool one small task this week. Before you start, write down what a good result looks like. Then check its work against your list.

What it is
An AI chat tool reflects the text it learned from: the knowledge, the opinions and the gaps. That makes you the director. AI does the work; you decide what's good enough to keep.
Why it matters
When most of the text comes from some people and some languages, answers lean their way. That tilt is called bias. If your community, language or field is less written about, expect weaker answers and bring your own judgment.
Key points
- Think of a film director and the final cut: the crew does a lot of the work, and the director decides what makes it to the screen.
- AI reflects us. Majority views show up more; communities and languages that are written about less show up less.
- In one large public collection of web pages, about 4 in 10 pages are in English.
- Buttons and brands will change. These habits won't: remember it predicts, check before you trust, give clear directions, connect carefully.
- You don't need a computer science degree. If you can explain what you want to another person, you can direct AI.
- Island Pitch calls this moment the Context Age: information is everywhere, and knowing how to direct it is the skill. That's our name for it, not an official term.
- Doing it the right way means asking who might be missing from an answer, and checking with a person when it matters.
Words to know

- A program you type or talk to that writes back in everyday language.
- bias
- A lean in answers toward some people or views over others.
- Context Age
- Island Pitch's name for now: information is everywhere; directing it is the skill.
